The L&N Bridge, which opened in 1872, is now officially known as the Newport-Southbank Bridge. However, it has been locally nicknamed “The Purple People Bridge” because of its unusual color and pedestrian usage.

The bridge provides a 1300’ pedestrian link between the north and south shores of the Ohio River, offering stunning panoramas of the old-world, provincial charm of Northern Kentucky and the metropolitan skyline of downtown Cincinnati.

RiverSpan provides valuable financial assistance for the continued safe operation and maintenance of the bridge through the non-profit, Newport-Southbank Bridge Company, a 501-C3 Corporation.
